Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali on Monday asked members of the police force to remain absolutely neutral during the forthcoming national parliamentary elections, stressing that professionalism and fairness must guide their actions.“We cannot afford to be aligned with any political party, ideology or individual. Our role is to ensure that citizens can exercise their rights in a free and peaceful manner,” he said while addressing the DMP’s monthly crime review meeting at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh.Referring to the recently concluded Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, he noted that fair polls are possible if all concerned remain committed.“That election has shown us that neutrality and responsibility can deliver positive results,” the DMP chief added.He also directed police officials to stay alert against banned organizations and take tough legal measures against anyone attempting to create unrest or threaten law and order.Turning to preparations for ...
