Flashflood Threat Looms Over Seven Districts in Bangladesh

With major rivers swelling amid days of relentless rain, seven districts in Bangladesh now face the risk of flashfloods, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) has warned.The districts under immediate threat include Feni, Chattogram, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Sherpur, Netrakona, and Mymensingh, where low-lying areas may experience short-term but severe inundation. The warning comes as heavy to very heavy rainfall batters Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rajshahi divisions, compounded by intense showers in India’s Tripura and Assam states.Rivers Rising Beyond LimitsAccording to the FFWC, water levels in the Gomti, Muhuri, Selonia, and Feni rivers have climbed sharply over the past 24 hours. The Muhuri and Selonia rivers in Feni are expected to cross the danger level, triggering flashfloods in nearby villages.
