Bangladesh’s top court has directed the relevant authorities to halt construction of the elevated expressway on the Hatirjheel and Panthakunja Park stretch, citing potential damage to Dhaka city’s important public spaces and structures.The High Court order was issued by a bench comprising Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Biswajit Debnath following a hearing on a petition.The authorities have also been instructed to reopen Panthakunja Park to the public.The writ petition was filed by nine individuals, including prominent environmentalist Amirul Rajib, Prof Gitiara Nasreen, and Anu Muhammad, seeking a ban on the expressway construction.
