Adviser to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Sk. Bashir Uddin has said that all imported goods were destroyed in Saturday’s fire that broke out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the damaged cargo village complex on Sunday, the adviser said, “All the imported goods have been burned in the fire. The extent of the loss is being assessed considering the weight and economic value of the affected goods.”

In response to questions from journalists about whether the fire was an accident or an act of sabotage, Bashir Uddin said, “All allegations are being taken into consideration in the investigation to determine the actual cause of the fire.”

“We have formed a committee that will thoroughly investigate the incident — from the situation before the fire to its aftermath,” he added.

The adviser also said that all relevant intelligence and investigative agencies are working together to uncover the mystery behind the incident.

He further informed that a 24-hour work schedule will continue at the cargo village over the next seven days to ensure smooth handling and delivery of incoming goods.

“To avoid any complications in the supply of new consignments arriving at the cargo, special arrangements have been made,” he said.

Bashir Uddin added that authorities are reviewing the insurance coverage of both the affected importers and the airport facilities.

Meanwhile, considering the passengers affected by the cancellation of 21 flights due to the fire, the government has decided to waive all additional charges for extra flights over the next three days, he said.
