Govt to Procure 100,000 Tonnes of Rice from India, Pakistan

The government has approved the purchase of a total of 100,000 metric tonnes of rice from India and Pakistan at a cost of Tk 4,590.58 million.The approval came at a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Government Procurement held on Tuesday, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.According to meeting sources, the committee approved the import of 50,000 metric tonnes of non-parboiled (Atap) rice from Pakistan under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement. The rice will be procured from the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).The purchase will cost Tk 2,415.23 million, with the price set at US$395 per metric tonne.
