Bangladesh receives $604 million in remittance in first five days of January

Bangladesh received remittances worth $604 million in the first five days of January, averaging $120.8 million per day, according to Bangladesh Bank.Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan disclosed the information on Monday.He said expatriate Bangladeshis sent $604 million during January 1–5 this year, compared to $397 million during the same period last year, indicating a significant year-on-year increase in remittance inflows.On January 5 alone, remittance inflows stood at $138 million, he added.According to Bangladesh Bank data, total remittance receipts from July to January 5 of the current fiscal year (FY 2025–26) reached $16.869 billion, marking a 19 percent increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.Earlier, Bangladesh received $3.22669 billion in remittances in December, the highest monthly inflow in the current fiscal year and the second-highest monthly remittance in the country’s history.In November, remittance inflows amounted to $2.88952 billion, while October and September recorded $2.56348 billion and ...
