The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) on Thursday issued the circular for the 51st Special BCS Examination 2026 to recruit 5,000 doctors to the health cadre.

Of the posts, 4,700 are for assistant surgeons and 300 for assistant dental surgeons.

Online applications will open at 10am on October 1 and close at 6pm on October 25, according to the circular.

Candidates aged 21 to 32 as of September 1, 2026, will be eligible to apply.

Applicants for assistant surgeon posts must have an MBBS or equivalent degree, while those applying for assistant dental surgeon posts must hold a BDS or equivalent degree.

Candidates awaiting their MBBS or BDS results may also apply provisionally, provided they complete all written examinations required for the degree by October 25. Their candidature will be cancelled if they fail to obtain the required qualification.

The selection process will carry 300 marks, 200 for a written MCQ examination and 100 for a viva voce.

The written examination will include 20 marks each for Bangla, English, Bangladesh Affairs and International Affairs, 10 marks each for Mental Ability and Mathematical Reasoning, and 100 marks on subjects relevant to the respective cadre.

The written examination is likely to be held in November, primarily in Dhaka.

The application fee is Tk 200 for general candidates, while candidates from ethnic minority communities, persons with disabilities and third-gender candidates will pay Tk 50. An additional Tk 5 will be charged for data verification and VAT.

Candidates qualifying for the viva will have to submit their BMDC registration certificates along with other required documents.

The BPSC also warned that candidates providing false information, submitting forged certificates or engaging in unfair practices could face cancellation of their candidature and other legal action.
