The ACC has arrested three people including the Sub-Registrar of Pahartali Sub-Registry Office in Chattogram while allegedly receiving a bribe of taka 200,000 in cash.

The arrestees are-Sub-Registrar Abdus Sobhan, his Head Clerk Faruk Islam and Umedar Rupun Das.

The Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) Assistant Director of the Public Relations Department Md Tanzir Ahmed disclosed the information here today.

According to the ACC, a lawyer had submitted two partnership deeds to the Pahartali Sub-Registry Office for registration on behalf of his client. Although there were no errors in the documents, the Sub-Registrar allegedly had kept those suspended. 

Later, Sub-Registrar Abdus Sobhan and Head Clerk Faruk Islam allegedly demanded taka 200,000 as a bribe for registering the two deeds.

The lawyer subsequently lodged a complaint with the ACC hotline 106 and later submitted a written complaint to the ACC District Office, Chattogram-1.

Following the complaint, an ACC trap team from the Chattogram-1 district office conducted an operation at the Pahartali Sub-Registry Office today with the commission's approval. The three were arrested red-handed while allegedly receiving the taka 200,000 as bribe.

The ACC said proceedings are underway to file a case against the arrested individuals and produce them before a court.
