The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) has fined Rupsha Restaurant on the capital's Green Road Tk 1 lakh for maintaining a filthy kitchen and serving unsafe food, officials said Monday.
A mobile court led by Executive Magistrate (Assistant Secretary) Sirajum Munira Kaisan of the authority conducted the drive at the restaurant, located at 228, Green Road, Dhanmondi, Dhaka-1205.
During the operation, the mobile court found the restaurant's kitchen in an extremely dirty and unhygienic state, with a broken floor. Fish, meat, grilled chicken and various cooked spices were found stored in the refrigerator without proper labelling.
The restaurant also failed to produce its registration certificate, premises licence, health certificates of food workers, and pest control certification, according to the BFSA.
Based on the restaurant's admission of guilt, the mobile court imposed a fine of Tk 1 lakh under the Safe Food Act, 2013, which was realised on the spot.
Aslam Bhuiyan, food safety inspector, along with other support staff of the BFSA and a smart team of Battalion Ansar members, were present during the drive.
